Alcohol myopia

"Alcohol myopia" refers to the tendency of alcohol to increase a person's concentration upon immediate events and reduce awareness of events which are distant (hence the reference to myopia which is nearsightedness). More: For instance, people are more likely to participate in unsafe or unwise sexual practices when drunk, while discounting risks such as unwanted pregnancy and disease, which are more distant in time.
