Intervertebral disc

a disc interposed between the bodies of adjacent vertebrae. It is composed of an outer fibrous part (anulus fibrosus) that surrounds a central gelatinous mass (nucleus pulposus). SYN: discus intervertebralis [TA], fibrocartilago intervertebralis, intervertebral cartilage.
