Kentmann test

(for formaldehyde) dissolve in a test tube 0.1 g of morphine in 1 mL of sulfuric acid; add, without mixing, an equal volume of the liquid to be tested; in a short time the latter will take on a reddish violet color if any formaldehyde is present.
