A safe future for polyurethane products

On 4th August 2020, a new restriction regarding diisocyanates was announced—to be enacted under European REACH laws.

The restriction is two-fold:

  • By 24th February 2022, all products that have a >0.1% total concentration of monomeric diisocyanates are required to follow labelling requirements, as detailed in the below document.
  • By 24th August 2023, all staff members using products with >0.1% total concentration of monomeric diisocyanates will need to be trained and certified.

Diisocyanates are used as a reactant in polyurethane products. The new restriction targets respiratory and dermal sensitivities potentially caused by diisocyanates use.
