Albright's syndrome

A genetic disorder which affects bones and skin pigmentation and causes hormonal problems and early sexual development. The condition is characterized by abnormal fibrous development of the bones which can lead to fractures, deformities and abnormal x-rays. Abnormal skull bone growth may also result in blindness or deafness ar cosmetic abnormalities. Children often have birthmarks. Also present is endocrine dysfunction with premature puberty especially in females. Hyperthyroidism may also occur resulting in increased basal metabolic rate, insomnia and fine motor tremor. Also called Albright-McCune Sternberg syndrome, osteitis fibrosa disseminate, polyostotic fibrous dysplasia.
