Alcohol Intolerance Syndrome

Abnormal metabolism, excretion, or other disposition of an alcohol or alcohollike substance. Sulfonylureas and other medications may cause an alcohol intolerance syndrome. Within 10 to 30 minutes of drinking a beverage or medication containing alcohol, some people get headaches, develop flushing or tingling in the face, and they may feel nauseated and lightheaded. These symptoms may last up to one hour and even relatively small amounts of alcohol--a half glass of wine, can cause a reaction.
