Di-n-octylphthalate (DNOP)

DNOP is a colorless, odorless, oily liquid that does not evaporate easily. It is a man-made substance used to keep plastics soft or more flexible (plasticiser). It can be used for medical tubing and blood storage bags, wire and cables, carpetback coating, floor tile, and adhesives. It is also used in cosmetics and pesticides. At present, DNOP is banned in toys and childcare articles that children can put into their mouths (see European Directive 2005/84/EC).
