Infant mortality rate

a measure of the rate of deaths of liveborn infants before their first birthday; the numerator is the number of infants under 1 year of age born alive in a defined region during a calendar year who die before they are 1 year old; the denominator is the total number of live births; often quoted as a useful indicator of the level of health in a community.
