[TA] an intrinsic cylindric muscle of the tongue, occupying the underpart on either side; action, shortens the lower part of the tongue; nerve supply, motor by hypoglossal, sensory by lingual. SYN: musculus longitudinalis inferior linguae [TA], inferior lingual muscle.
