Irukandji syndrome

(ir″u-kan´je) a clinical syndrome observed in Queensland, Australia, due to stinging by the jellyfish Carukia barnesi; symptoms include initial neuromuscular paralysis that can be fatal, and in survivors systemic symptoms with pulmonary edema and skin ulcers at the site of infection.
