A protein that belongs to the ERM (i.e., ezrin, radixin, and moesin) group of the band 4.1 superfamily of proteins that assist in the establishment of submembrane cytoskeletal scaffolds to maintain membrane architecture and functional capacity. Moesin is required for the accurate organization of the cytoskeletal component of the apical membranes.
