Nitrous oxide is a colourless non-flammable gas with the chemical formula N2O. This gas is naturally emitted by bacteria. The livestock sector and industry are the main anthropogenic sources of nitrous oxide emissions. When released into the atmosphere it acts as a powerful greenhouse gas.
