Van Slyke test

(for amide nitrogen) nitrous acid acting on amide nitrogen sets free nitrogen gas, which is collected and its volume determined. (for urea) treat the sample with urease, pass the ammonia so formed into N/50 normal acid, and titrate the excess of acid.
