Aschoff bodies

a form of granulomatous inflammation characteristically observed in acute rheumatic carditis; fully developed Aschoff bodies consist of fibrinoid change in connective tissue, lymphocytes, occasional plasma cells, and abnormal characteristic histiocytes. SYN: Aschoff nodules.
