Atypical mycobacteria

species of Mycobacterium orther than M. tuberculosis that cause infections in both healthy and immunosuppressed people. Examples are M. marinum, M. avium, M. intracellulare, M. fortuitum, M. chelonei, M. kansasi, and M. ulcerans. SYN: nontuberculous mycobacteria.
