A semi-synthetic, broad spectrum, fourth generation cephalosporin antibiotic which inhibits bacterial cell wall biosynthesis by interfering with the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis which ultimately causes the bacterial to lyse. (NCI)
