A rare metabolic disorder involving a deficiency of a molecule needed to transport glucose (GLUT1). The glucose is unable to be transported from the blood and into the brain and cerebrospinal fluid. Sugar transport to the brain is essential for normal development. The blood sugar level remains normal. Fasting exacerbates symptoms which can very in severity depending on the degree of deficiency.
