Directed evolution

molecular diversity created by random mutagenesis and/or recombination of a target molecule or a family of related molecules; variants are then identified in a screen (or selection) that accurately reflects the properties of interest; molecules selected from these screens are used as parents for the next round of evolution; evolutionary methods are used to improve or alter enzymatic properties, as well as other biomolecular properties.
