Distant flap

a flap in which the donor site is distant from the recipient area. Unless donor and recipient sites can be positioned approximately (e.g., cross leg flap), transfer previously required multiple intermediate stages. Now distant flaps can be transferred in one stage by microvascular anastomosis of artery and vein.
