Electrostatic Precipitator

A device that reduces pollution from smokestacks. It gives the particles in smoke an electrical charge. The charged particles are then collected on filters that have the opposite charge and the particles are thereby removed from the emission stream. [Fleisher, Paul. Ecology A to Z. Dillon Press, New York. 1994. p. 70.]
