Familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (FMLH)

an extremely rare, usually fatal disease of childhood characterized by multiorgan infiltration by activated macrophages and lymphocytes. The disease is often familial and appears to be inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. SYN: familial erythrophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
