Glycosylphosphatidyliositol anchor

a tether for some surface proteins to the cell membrane; these proteins are deficient in blood cells of patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria as a result in a mutation in the X-linked phosphatidylinositolglycan complementation group A gene; GPI-linked proteins are required for normal lymphocyte function and to maintain normal peripheral lymphoid homeostasis.
