Greater occipital nerve

[TA] medial branch of the dorsal primary ramus of the second cervical nerve; sends branches to the semispinalis capitis and multifidus cervicis, but is mainly sensory, supplying the back part of the scalp, meningeal branches to the posterior cranial fossa, and pain and proprioceptive branches to the first cervical nerve for the suboccipital muscles. SYN: nervus occipitalis major [TA].
