ICU psychosis

psychotic episode(s), classically occurring in coronary care patients, occurring within 24 hours after entering the ICU in patients with no previous history of psychosis; related to sleep deprivation, overstimulation in the ICU, and time spent on life support systems; should be distinguished from exacerbation of a preexisting psychosis or an organic psychosis such as delirium.
