Iliococcygeus (muscle)

[TA] the posterior part of the levator ani; origin, tendinous arch of the levator ani muscle (obturator fascia); insertion, anococcygeal ligament and coccyx; action, resistance to increase intrapelvic pressure, postdefecatory elevation of anal canal. SYN: musculus iliococcygeus [TA], iliococcygeal muscle.
