[TA] deep back (erector spinae) muscle; origin, posterior aspect of sacrum and thoracolumbar fascia; insertion, the angles of lower six ribs; action, extends, abducts, and rotates lumbar vertebrae; nerve supply, dorsal branches of thoracic and lumbar nerves. SYN: lumbar iliocostal muscle, musculus sacrolumbalis.
