Inferior gluteal nerve

[TA] arises as a branch of the sacral plexus, conveying fibers from the fifth lumbar and first and second sacral nerves , and supplies the gluteus maximus muscle. It is subject to injury by compression and ischemia in sedentary individuals, resulting in difficulty in rising from a sitting position and difficulty climbing stairs. SYN: nervus gluteus inferior [TA].
