An inherited or sporadic condition characterized by the development of multiple noncancerous polyps in the digestive tract usually by the second decade of life. The polyps are generally noncancerous but there may be an increased risk of gastrointestinal cancer. The number and size of polyps and the risk of cancer is variable.
