Lateral plantar nerve

[TA] one of two terminal branches of the tibial nerve; it courses along the lateral side of the sole, dividing into superficial and deep branches; it supplies the skin of the lateral aspect of the sole and the lateral one-and-a-half toes; it innervates the intrinsic muscles of the plantar part of the foot with the exception of the abductor hallucis and the flexor digitorum brevis; its distribution in the foot is similar to that of the ulnar nerve in the hand. SYN: nervus plantaris lateralis [TA].
