A form of ataxia that starts in childhood and is associated with symptoms such as vomiting, vertigo, rigid muscles, seizures, mental disorder, loss of control over voluntary movements and dementia. Death generally occurs within a decade of onset of symptoms. See also Westphal-Leyden ataxia
