Panophthalmitis (medical condition)

An inflammation of the inner eye which usually affects all the layers of the eyeball. The inflammation can also extend into tissue surrounding the eyeball. The infection can result from a penetrating injury to the eye, septicemia or can spread from pus-producing infection in another part of the body. See also Panophthalmitis
