Schultze test

(for cellulose) iodine is dissolved to saturation in a zinc chloride solution, and 6 parts of potassium iodide are added: this reagent colors cellulose blue. (for cholesterol) evaporate with nitric acid, using a porcelain dish and water bath; if cholesterol is present, a yellow deposit is formed, which changes to yellowish red when ammonia is added.
