Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (medical condition)

A rare group of diseases that progressively impair brain and nervous system functioning. They may be caused by genetic mutations, occur for no obvious reason or may be transmitted through exposure to animals or people contaminated with prions e.g. eating contaminated beef can cause Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
