Whipple disease

(hwip´әl) a malabsorption syndrome caused by an actinomycete, marked by diarrhea, steatorrhea, skin pigmentation, arthralgia and arthritis, lymphadenopathy, central nervous system lesions, and infiltration of the intestinal mucosa with macrophages containing PAS-positive material. Called also intestinal lipodystrophy .
