Aseptic necrosis of the tibial tubercle (medical condition)

A knee condition believed to be caused by excessive tendon pulling on the kneecap. The bony portion betweent the lower kneecap and upper shin becomes painful, inflamed and swollen. Continuation of certain activities such as running and jumping can make the condition worse. Symptoms usually persist for weeks or months. One or both knees may be affected.
