Ballantyne-Runge syndrome (medical condition)

A pregnancy that goes over the normal gestation term of 42 weeks. The greatest problem with prolonged gestation is the fact that the placenta may shrink and be unable to supply the fetus with sufficient oxygen and nutrients. In extreme cases, the fetus may lose weight or suffer problems from chronic oxygen shortage. See also Ballantyne-Runge syndrome
