(1) that portion of the tricarboxylic acid cycle involving the dicarboxylic acids (succinic, fumaric, malic, and oxaloacetic acids); (2) a cyclic scheme in which certain steps of the tricarboxylic acid cycle are used with the glyoxylate cycle; important in the use of glyoxylic acid in microorganisms.
