Display Screen Equipment

The Display Screen Equipment Regulations 1992 in the U.K. specify the steps employers must take to help avoid harm to heavy users of computers. The regulations also cover other types of equipment such as microscopes. The aim of the regulations is to minimize the possibility of users developing back or neck injuries, or suffering from RSI-type disorders through incorrect posture, poor screen positioning, or other inadequacies in the working environment. Employers are under a legal obligation to meet the standards set out in the regulations. Users in Oxford University should consult University Policy Statement S3/03 for more details.
