[TA] a groove on the lateral condyle of the femur between the epicondyle and the articular margin. Its anterior end gives origin to the popliteus muscle; its posterior end lodges the tendon of the muscle when the knee is fully flexed. SYN: sulcus popliteus [TA], popliteal groove.
