Lamellae of upper and lower lids

a division of the upper and lower lids into functional anatomic levels. The anterior lamella corresponds to the skin and orbicularis oculi muscle with the associated fascial and vascular structures. The posterior lamella consists of the levator aponeurosis (in the upper lid) or the capsulopalpebral fascia (in the lower lid), the tarsal plates, and the conjunctival lining. Some authorities have designated three upper and lower lid lamellae, the orbital septum and fat constituting the middle lamellae.
