Asymmetric crying facies (medical condition)

A minor birth defect where the muscle the controls the lower lip is absent or underdeveloped. The muscle defect causes facial weakness on one side which becomes noticeable when a baby cries or smiles. Often other birth defects are also associated and if this is the case, the condition is then referred to as Cayler syndrome. See also Asymmetric crying facies
