Foramen cecum of tongue

[TA] a median pit on the dorsum of the posterior part of the tongue, from which the limbs of a V-shaped furrow run forward and outward; it is the site of origin of the thyroglossal duct and subsequently, the thyroid gland. SYN: foramen cecum linguae [TA], blind foramen of the tongue, cecal foramen of the tongue, ductus lingualis, Morgagni foramen (1).
